Mudgeeraba Bridge Club is a not-for-profit affiliate of the Australian Bridge Federation and the Queensland Bridge Association. Bridge is a benevolent, trick taking card game, played by four players in two competing partnerships. It is played worldwide under the auspices of the World Bridge Federation.

Here in Australia, there are approximately 30,000 people who play, what is an enjoyable, mentally stimulating and a very challenging game. This club is particularly targeting senior citizens and / or those seeking companionship for mental health.

In 2005 Mudgeeraba Bridge Club was having a difficult time. Their days were no longer available where they played and it looked as though they would have to close. On the 14th November of that year 16 people got together determined to see the Club survive. The Club secretary was artist Wendy List, who introduced the President, John Hosking to Peter Ochsenbein who was delighted to welcome the Bridge Club. It was agreed that it would play at the Mudgeeraba Foundation Centre. Peter, who had a terrific sense of humour, said that the club would “add a bit of culture” to the premises.

Initially the club played on Monday afternoons, but as demand grew, it started Friday afternoon sessions. Both sessions are still played today. Play commences at 12:15 pm on both days and is finished by 4:00 pm. All the club details can be found on our website https://mudgeeraba.bridgeaustralia.org

More than 200 different players have competed at the club over the years. Membership grew to a peak of over 60, but like many clubs and associations, COVID hit this club badly. Its membership has currently shrunk to around 40. Having said that, the club gained 5 new members in 2023.

If you are a Bridge player and have a partner and would like a game, please contact president John Hosking to give it a go. If you do not have a playing partner, then please contact the “Partner Finder” (see the contact details on the club’s website). All players are welcome, no matter what standard you have reached. If you are not a player but would like to learn then the club can advise you on how to go about this.
